Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko on July 14, 2014. The rotational speed is reasonably slow, with the comet completing a rotation on its axis approximately every 12 hours, 36 minutes. This movie uses a sequence of 36 interpolated images each separated by 20 minutes, providing a 360° preview of the complex shape of the comet. The images suggest that the comet may consist of two parts: one segment seems to be rather elongated, while the other appears more bulbous. The images have been processed with technique that removes the pixelization and makes a smoother image; the comet’s surface is not likely to be as smooth as the processing implies.
